I am SO glad to find this site! I've seen the film 5 times in the month
I've had it...its easily one of my top 5 films. Its gotten me back into
poetry, and yes, struck a chord with me and my personal history. As I'm
planning some sort of fan fic, I'm happy to find this place! Thank you

Just saw the movie for the first time last night! Fantastic! i love the
gunkata sooo much.
i'm a martial artist and that movie has really inspired me to train
harder.

I love this film!!! People here in the UK slated it as a matrix copy,

This was a beautifull movie. I enjoyed it a great deal, especially the

For those who didn't notice, EQUILIBRIUM stole a shot from SEVEN. Right
before Bale shoots Father, he has a flashback of that one skank. Same
thing in SEVEN with Brad Pitt before he shoot Spacey - he remembers his
wifes face. SEVEN was better. I don't care if it's comparing apples
& oranges. SEVEN was a badass movie. So was 28 DAYS LATER and TAXI
DRIVER and David Fincher's ALIEN 3. Those movies kicked ass. So did
AMERICAN HISTORY X. EQ had way to many miscasts and plot holes.The
concept was to far fetched. The action cinemetography was overdone.
Some of the scenes with bale in the beginning had potentitial, like the
dog scene at night where he fucks those cops up. Ha.

Wow, am I glad I found this site. Love the movie, the scenes with the
samuri and the fights and then one just gets knocked over by the look
of complete raw innocence on Christian Bale's face. I cannot wait to

This is the futuristic scenario I have waited for to make it into the
movies.
Ever since Blade Runner I have always had a soft spot for Neo-Realism.
What I cant understand is why the Swedish Distributor retitled the
movie as "Cubic".
That doesn't make sense.
The Japenese version is called Rebellion, which isn't a very good title
for this movie, but c'mon, Cubic?
Anyhow, this movie precedes both Blade Runner and Impostor when it
comes to Dark Cyberpunk/neo-realism.
God I want the Grammaton gun, a modified Beretta with Full-autofiring

Hello from Italy!I was in the theatre yesterday evening and I didn't
breath all along the movie!At the beginning it was very hard to me,I
mean...the dogs'scene for example..than I began to understand the
meaning of all and I loved it.It's a great message,I found something I
was looking for,and was helpful.And the movie in itself?Great
scenes,great rhythm,great music.Sean Bean likes always to give some
great cameos (unfortunately a bit too short..) and Bale surprised
me:he's superb.I did love him listening Beethoven for the first time,or
looking the puppy dog without knowing yet what he was feeling...I guess
it's very difficult to play such emotions,and the end of the movie is a
masterpiece of philosophy.And a good one.Thank you!!

It's a shame that this fantastic movie didn't make it into the cinemas
in so many countries :-/ The Gun Kata is fascinating...and the

It won't be original if I say that the movie was a real piece of art.
It's been three days since I got it and I've seen it four times
already. What I found most interesting, among other things, of course,
was the way Bale used his face for acting. The character was torn
between the two worlds of people, of those who felt and who didn't and
it could be perfectly seen judging from Bale's face. The ability to use
facial expressions to show the characters feelings and emotions is what
constitutes a great actor to me. I remember Bale from ''American
Psycho'' and must admit that he is really good when it comes to
becoming a character deprived of any feelings and emotions. All in all,
I find the movie really worth seeing. It's a pure pleasure!

I had a friend who had this movie on VCD and he said was a great movie
and is very much so. I watched it and I was disapointed it didnt come
to nthe movies in New Zealand its not even out on DVD over here to

Great site, man! Yesterdy i went to to our local videostore and rent
the EQ DVD. Man, first i tought "not another Matrix copy!", but as it
turned out, the movie and especially it's action sequences are even
better then Matrix. Keep this site going, great work!
P.S.: Can anyoen tell me where i can find the Music from the Movie? As
it seems, there ain't no O.S.T. and i need the music within the action
scenes.

Hi Scott, about a New Zealand release for Equilibrium, which would be
region 4, according to Dark Horizons there currently isn't one. Some
New Zealand sites though are selling the DVD but they are R1. As soon
as it becomes available I'm sure someone will post the info on my
message board.

Cool site for a great film. I know kung fu! lol well wing chun and as a
long stnading friend of mine and talented kung fu master of mine has
said the gun kata looks very similair to some of the WCKF moves. As
WCKF is based mainly on hands and speed i am a big fan of this style.

This movie is great, which open action, the plot and great Gunkata
actions. This movie better then a Matrix, there are no slow emotions
but you can see how cool is done. The actors are great apart the father
his face is completely doesn't go with the film, there to much fake in
his face and emotions that is become boring to look at him?if director
try to create another Equilibrium II he should think for proper actors
which faces will go on alone with the film smoothly. Basically the main
character is so great that NEO is just fake boy in Matrix cant combine
with it. I think the directors should think to create another
?Equilibrium II? with more Gunkata actions you will say what more-- is
still the end. No way--- directors think and made up plot and create
another ?Equilibrium??..

"3l3x4" is totally right about father's face. That guy was totally
miscasted. He looks like the guy from the el pollo loco commercials
haha! I also think the lady who gets executed was miscasted. Even
though that lady is a good actor, her face and eyes are too odd for the
part. I really like what the director attempted to create in his movie
when that lady gets burned up and Preston cries and stuff. The music is
very moving. The only problem is I didnt feel anything for her
character. I was actually mad they mis casted her. Because if they had
casted the right lady, then Kurt Wimmer would have captured an emotion
similair to David Finchers SEVEN when Bradd Pitts wife is killed. See,
in SEVEN u cared about Gwyenth Paltrow, but in EQUILIBRIUM I just didnt
care about that lady (whatever her name is). Anways, it was still
decent and quite rare, although certain scenes fustrated me. Kurt
Wimmer was so close to have a perfect film, but these stupid little
scenes he slacked off and it turned

I'm from Canada and finally saw the movie about 2 weeks ago for the
first time and have seen it 6-7 times since, it is simply superb!!! I
love it and so does my boyfriend... Congratulations also for this most

An amazing, artful and lyrical movie! I knew nothing about the release
of this film, until it showed up on my pay-for-view cable station in
New York City this summer. I watched it, and immediately purchased a
copy. Kurt Wimmer highlighted on the DVD that female audiences tested a
bit more positively than males in response to the film ... and in the
case of my own home (where I am outnumbered by two males), he is
correct. I have watched the DVD five times in the past three weeks,
including the Director and Producer commentaries, and my son and
husband appreciate the film, but do not understand my enthusiasm for
all things "Equilibrium". As a potential member of the female preview
group (and I will also add, over 50), I find this film to be one of the
best I have ever seen. A devotee of "" Altered States", "Logan's Run",
"Blade Runner", "Fahrenheit 451", "Impostor" and the Matrix, this is

Well ... here's the rest of my previous post ... artist, is phenomenal,
as is Sean Bean who has an overwhelming presence in the movie from
beginning to end. An amazing film and I cannot wait to see Wimmer's
next, which I understand is "Ultraviolet". I hope it is produced by
Lucas Foster as well, a wonderful production visionary. And I now own
almost every film made with Christian Bale. I truly hope for an
"Equilibrium" sequel ... supported by more extensive and intense

It's Friday night, 2am, and I "lost my time" to go out with my
girlfriend only to see this film for the first time! What could I say
more about it film!? I must admit that I got a pirated dvd version
"somewhere", but you should agree that here in BRAZIL the movie wasn't
released officialy, so I had no choice... It makes me so happy to see
that there are people even more talented than the Wachowski Brothers
(the geniouses behind "the Matrix"). This film is really top quality,
and it really is one of the best I have seen in my life, without a
doubt. This movie (along with Blade Runner, the 1st episode of Matrix
and a few others) should be categorized as a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
There can't be many movies as good as EQUILIBRIUM. This film just gave
a new meaning to the words "kick ass". Cheers from a Brazilian fan.

Hi Himmelherz, Equilibrium is not based on any one book and was written
and created by the director of the film, Kurt Wimmer. It is obvious
that Wimmer used a vast variety of sources in creating the story. On
the site I have one of the early screenplays which Wimmer wrote but its
not the "Shooting Script" & a bit different from the film. You can
find it at the link below. (I'll also e-mail this to you.) - Jen

I found Equilibrium to be one of the best films I have seen for along
time.
The concept of martial arts and gun-play made for an excellent film,
with lots of action and humourous asides (even thought the film was not
supposed to be funny).

Great website, but am I the only one who really thought, "1984 crossed
with The Matrix" on this one? THe fact that everyone feels the need to
mention how much better it was or wasnt than a certain movie tends to

The only people I've seen that seem to have an unrealistic problem with
Equilibrium are rabid Matrix fanboys. I tend to enjoy both and am a
fangirrl of each. Matrix fangirls seem to be much more accepting to EQ
than their male counterparts. It is also interesting to note how much
Matrix itself took from other films & sources, The Crow & Blade
only a few. Doesn't make it any less of a great film.

im really glad i'd find this site for 'equilibrium' film, i really like
the film as well as the actors. i've seen the film for 4 times and it
did make me sick, i keep on thinking of the logic and the
moves,actually its the best film i've ever seen and it has been my
number one film i've got. and i like christian's personality in the

Great site. I have been tracking the progress of this film for some
time and am glad someone has given it the attention it deserved. Many
will make comparisons to other films in this genre, as is only natural.
I believe it really needs to be given it's own chance to shine. It is
good enough to stand on it's own. I am upset that the word "Matrix" is
on the DVD cover. Let it go guys. They are two different movies. For
all you Matrix fans, know this; I loved the first film, am adjusting to
the second and am awaiting the third, but to believe this film is
riding on the coat tails of the Matrix is silly. Why is there not
enough room for them both to be respected and thought of as "cool".
Vivaldi and Bach both Kicked Ass, classical music fans don't lower
themselves to mindless "Well your bad sucks" fights, so why should we.
Remember the Wachowski's were trying to create live action Anime' to
begin with. Look at the Animatrix. Any Sci-Fi fan worth his weight in

This movie is simply amazing! But it pisses me off that so few people I
know have seen this film. I remember reading some article a few months
back in some magizine (EW I think) that had a list of movies that
copied from the matrix. This film was the list, so I didn't think
anything of the movie. Im glad I decided to rent it - now the goal is
to get the uninformed masses who think its just matrix copy to see it
as well.

I had heard about the movie in entertainment weekly. It interested me
and I forgot about it until I was in a used video store and spotted one
for sale. I bought it and subsequently watched it every day for the

Hi nick, currently there is no sequel in the works and most of us fan
are actually somewhat against the idea. Kurt Wimmer is at this time in
pre-production on a new action film UltraViolet and Bale has been cast
in the new Batman film being helmed by Chris Nolan (Memento). That
should keep things busy for awhile. I'd hate to see an EQ film done

I, too, thought "Matrix Clone" upon seeing the title screen of the DVD,
but then as the film played I started rattling off the names of
probable sources of story elements. Let's see, we have Party (regular
storm troopers), Inner Party (Clerics), and Proletariate (Nether) ways
of life - drawn from 1984. I see an entire population being drugged
into submission - shades of A Brave New World. There's the burning of
art and literature - straight from Farenheit 451. It's a great action
film, but for the story one could go either way: it was either an
ingenious melding of several literary classics, or an uninspired
hodge-podge of obviously stolen ideas. The Gun-Kata, though - truely
ingenious martial arts craftsmanship. The mark of a true success, I'm
told, is leaving the audience wanting more, but I don't see much room
for a sequel. Perhaps it's best that way - look at how the Matrix
sequel turned out.

This is a great site! I adore the film, and have seen it a stupid
amount of times *lol* Its easily in my top 5, if not my fave film at
the moment. It has the whole package, action/suspence/drama and some of
the best acting I've ever seen. Christian is absolutely brilliant in
this (as where the others) from cold blooded to full blown emotion.
Especialy where he finds the hidden room. (I had a tear in my eye too.)
The film isn't out here on DVD until the 6th of Oct, so I'm taking the
day off work to get it :D In regards to a post made earlier concerning
the Gun Kata and Wing Chun, I do that form too and agree some of it is
VERY simular, and might even be a off-shoot of that styles 3rd form.

How the hell was this movie not bigger??? And to all those folk who
reckon it ripped off The Matrix I say this - men jump about in black,
waving guns and the similarity ends there. Completely different premise
and style. If Matrix bods were to be believed 90% of films, past and
present ripped off the Matrix. The Wachowski Bros dont hold the
copyright on black coats ;) God I love Equilibrium :)

All I can say is...Bravo! This is an excellent site, and I will most

Im here in Canada, and didn't even know that this movie exsisted until
one fateful day when I saw the film on DVD in our local video store.
Read the premise on the cover and thought it looked interesting......
was I ever blown away with this film and I have told everyone one I
know to watch this movie. Now I know Im not a movie buff like some of
the ppl that have signed the book, but I know a good action film when I
see one. Its too bad that this movie didnt have a theatrical release

the word cleric. That suggests religion, which requires faith which is

I think this has to be one of the best films i have seen for many
years. I saw it in March 2003 at the cinema and bought it on region 1

I?seen the film 3 times in a day since i saw it first time, two days

"mtrix" copy, but this movie cannot compare with another and less

Definatly in my top two favorite films ( other being A wonderfull
life.) and created by a fantastic Director/writer Kurt wimmer bringing
poetry and action together (poetry in motion) would be a good way to
describe the gun Katas as many others who have writen in this guest
book think I too feel EQ is a better thought out flim than the matrix
more thought has went into both the story and the production.

Quite interestingly, I planned on hating this movie. I thought it was
going to be a cheaply made Matrix knock-off. BUT IT WASN'T!!!
Equilibrium was so fantastic. It was emotional, smart, and incredibly
interesting (the gun kata especially). The scene where Christian Bale
first hears classical music, and then he drops the globe and starts
tearing up -- that bit of acting on Bale's part is sooo powerful. Man,
I truly love that film. Thanks for having a fan site for it. I only
wish the film were more popular. :)

Good sight for a film I very much enjoyed. Bale said in your sound
clips section that they aimed for a solid combination of action and
drama, and, in my mind, they definately succeeded. I would have loved
to seen some info on what kinds of martial arts training they receieved
and who trained them (the fights seemed based on Japanese martial
arts). I'm also wondering if C. Bale had any previous training. He
moves very well, more than a crash training course would allow. Perhaps
you can add that info. to your sight, because a lot of people like
myself who practice martial arts and liked the movie were wondering
about the movie's training and bales previous experience.

Plot holes and flaws are only in the eye of the beholder...deductive
reasoning is quite helpful...personally I find "wrapped up" films to be

Nice sight for an underappreciated film. While I think the attempt to
advertise it as "better than the matrix" was silly, at the same time,
Equilibrium WAS better than the matrix in a lot of ways. Christian Bale
is a far superiour actor than Reeves and Fishburne, as well as much
more athletic and therefore more convincing in the fight scenes. And if

This site is brilliant, the film even better, matrix can roll over now,
as its pant in comparision i a quality film with relatively unknown
actors and actresses, equilibrium is a truely great film and im hooked

I was happy to find this site. I just saw Equilibrium for the first
time recently. I just had to search online to find out WHY i hadn't
ever heard of it before. It is a fantastic movie, very intense. Now i
see that it had only a limited release. Thanks for the site, but I'll
still never understand why it wasn't a HUGE success.

E. is the best film which I have ever seen. You can find only a lot of
films which can change people. I think that this is one of them. Pleas
you must regret my english. I am from Czech Republic. It is smal
republick in "the heart of Europe" but it is my home. We have been the
part of "Russia emperor" for a very long time. We lived in a "smal
Equilibrium" and we survived. And I am very proud on oure people. I
hope that this time will never come back. Thank You!!!

Hey Nick, Very nice. Just one tip though. If you use images from my
site you need to change the end tags to caps. Example - gif to GIF. The
pictures should work then.

desarrollado, con muchos detalles tenidos en cuenta, la historia
basicamente en muy vanguardista, al punto de creersela.
aflojar a veces no es bueno, no siempre el final es feliz, como este

This movie rox!Most definetly one of the best movies ever produced !It
really should have made it into theaters instead of some unmentionable
movies (The Matirx)(hee,hee hee).Christian ROCKED the screen and played
his part to the "T".The most briliant movie ever made!I went looking
for this movie asap so i went to WalMart but I couldnt find it

WOW when i first saw the cover to this movie i thought oh boy another
matrix ripoff. Much to my suprise this movie isn't even comparable to
matrix. THIS MOVIE ROCKED I WANNA WATCH IT AGAIN! My only disapointment
is this movie didnt get the attention and praise it deserves in the
theaters. The only plus is since it isnt wide known no one is going to
be bound overuse the gun kata!
